The building was designed at the end of the 19th century by architect Suter, a close friend of the King Charles I in the well-known Brancovenesc-style. Instead of demolishing the building, it was decided not only to preserve but to fully restore the exterior and elements of the interior to its original grandeur, amounting to the largest per-room investment in any hotel in Romania.
